That beautiful wing.

Where would we be without it?

The big cloud.

Empty seats in the Airbus A300.

No waiting crowds at the airport.

The Bali style reception desk at the Bali Agung Village.

Garden between the cottages at Bali Agung Village.

Big hopper in the gardens. He's about 75mm (3 inches) long.

In the morning he was gone - and so was most of the leaf.

Small flowers in the Village gardens. These are actually about 10mm (half an inch) across.

 Deserted Tuban beach.

Very quiet Jl Pantai Kuta at midday.

Empty Kuta beach. This sand would normally be covered with bodies - both covered and uncovered.

The resident cat and family at the Tekor Bali Que restaurant in Jl Sahadewa in Legian.

Cha Cha, the resident hound of the Pantai Restaurant which is right on the beach at Tuban.

 Girls working at Tuban Beach.

The black crocheted hat is for Daughter No1 who had had her head shaved to raise money for a leukaemia fund raiser.

Decorative limestone walls are fairly common in the secluded environs of Seminyak and display the craftsmanship of local workers.

The old boat builder of Jimbaran Bay.

The embarrassing tins of Epoxy A and Epoxy B are those with the red and blue printed labels on the bench just behind him.

At the edges of his narrow lean-to, the alang-alang grass roof is just above his head. You can see how the edge rests on the roof of the boat shelter next door.

The Jimbaran Beach fishing fleet moorings with the airport runway extension out into the bay showing as a black line on the right horizon.

The small boat near the shore is known as a 'sampan'. It is mainly used to take the crew out to the larger boats but as it has no outrigger on one side it is also used for fishing when throwing a round casting net with weights around the edge. The net is pulled in to the side of the sampan which does not have the outrigger float.

The more 'Javanese' style fishing boat with the straight stem is in the centre foreground. Large versions of this style are ocean-going and when they are old and worn out they become the 'people smuggler' boats known to Australians. The rounder bow, lapped plank boats on either side of this one are the Buginese or 'Balinese' style .

The smaller, white fibreglass boat in the centre right is quite an anomaly.

The huge bronze statue at the GWK Cultural Park based in an ancient limestone quarry on the slopes of the Bukit Peninsula south of Jimbaran.

Each sheet of bronze is individually beaten into the required profile and then fitted to the edges of the neighbouring sheets before being welded to them and to an internal steel supporting framework.

The walls and 'floor' of the quarry make a huge amphitheatre complementing the scale of the statues.

The head of the mythical Garuda bird is on the upper level at the centre.

The Garuda head.

Notice the size of the two people at its base to the right.

The brown stains  around the base are streaks of iron rust from the internal supporting framework which has not yet been sealed from the weather.

A peaceful retreat within the Cultural Park.

Children singing to welcome us to the Hope Children's Home.

The boy who would rather be somewhere else is just disappearing into the wings of the stage at top right.

Sanur Beach (this part is more accurately called Sindhu Beach) is really beautiful after its cleanup and renovation, at least as nice as Nusa Dua.

The hat from Sindhu Beach markets, the one that I couldn't get lost in, also caught the eye of the Charlotte the cat.

There are more pictures of the more distant travels we took on this holiday at RushedPictures2, around Candi Dasa near the east coast.
